Service Description

In this 6-week class, beginners will learn basic techniques of throwing on the wheel along with related dip glazing techniques. Students will learn to wedge, center, open and pull up clay to make a cylinder shape and more! Returning students will learn to make more advanced forms, use increasingly larger amounts of clay, make multiples of selected shapes and dip and brush glaze their work. All clay, glazes and firings are included in the class fee. Students can choose to use commercially made clay or studio clay that has been reclaimed and are encouraged to wear comfy old clothes and bring a bib apron or bath size towel to cover their clothes. This class for beginner and coontinuing beginner wheel throwers meets Tuesday mornings, 10 am-12:30pm. Due to the small class size, no refunds will be available one week prior to the first class or once the class has started. Instructor: Bruce Jordan Bruce operates Jordan Mill Pottery in Olin. He began his pottery training at Mitchell Community College and then apprenticed with Dan Theice at Dirtworks Pottery in Seagrove, NC. Later, Bruce taught pottery at Mitchell Community College in the Continuing Ed program for several years. Then he took a pause to raise his young children while working at Slane Glass and North Iredell High School. Now that he has retired, Bruce can be found in his studio most every day, living his dream of being a production potter! He hopes to offer classes there one day and in the meantime, we are happy he is teaching at Create!! Bruce joined Create in March 2022 and has taught Beginner and Beginner/Intermediate Wheel Throwing classes since then!!
