Service Description

This 7-week class, taught by Robin McGuirt , will revolve around hand building forms and applying different surface decorating techniques. Week One: Learn the physical properties of clay forms with simple cereal bowls. A great project for beginners and a skill builder for the experienced. Week Two: Faux Bois fun with a beautiful dish formed with real leaves and handles that replicate branches. Week Three: Playing with surfaces on a fun asymmetrical pot using all the textures while exposing exaggerated seams, faux findings and handles. Week Four: Origami in clay using a choice of shapes and folds to create beauty in simplicity. Week Five: Finishing touches for pots. Week Six: Glazing the bisque fired works with intention. Week Seven: Final thoughts and sharing time while we wrap and box the completed pottery to take home! All clay, glazes and firings are included in the class fee. Students are encouraged to wear comfy old clothes. This class meets on Thursday mornings from 10-12:30, beginning on July 9th and ending on August 20th. Due to the small class size, no refunds will be available one week prior to the first class or once the class has started. In the event the studio needs to cancel a class, a make up session will be offered, however, make up classes are not available for student absences. Please take time to click on the "Studio Handbook and Studio Policies" link on the webpage. You will be asked to sign the "Studio Agreement and Waiver" form at your first class. Instructor: Robin McGuirt Robin is an accomplished potter who lives in Harmony, NC with her husband, 2 dogs, sheep, chickens and bees. She works from her home studio, making primarily wheel thrown pieces. Robin has been making pottery for over 20 years and her favorite pieces to make are wine glasses and custom wedding and communion sets. She has shown her work at the Bascom in Highlands, NC, the Smart Gallery in W Jefferson and at GG's here in Statesville. Robin has taught adult workshops in our area and we've been lucky to have her as an instructor here at CrEaTe for our adult Wheel and Hand Building classes as well as the Kids' Studio Class.
