Service Description

In this 6-week class, beginners will learn basic techniques of throwing on the wheel along with related dip glazing techniques. Students will learn to wedge, center, open and pull up clay to make a cylinder shape and more! Returning students will learn to make more advanced forms, use increasingly larger amounts of clay, make multiples of selected shapes and dip and brush glaze their work. To maximize time on the wheel, students will make pots during classes 1-4 and trim pots made the previous session at the beginning of the each class. Class 5 will involve preparing all pots for glazing and class 6 will be spent glazing!! Students will return the next week at the regular class time for pottery pick up and our own version of "Pottery Class Show and Tell"!! This class is for beginner and continuing beginner wheel throwers and meets Thursday evenings, 6-8:30pm. Students in this class are also invited to attend a 2 hour complimentary practice session on Saturday, May 17th for "Free Throw Saturday". Just sign up on the Weekly Class page! All clay, glazes and firings are included in the class fee. Students are encouraged to wear comfy old clothes. Due to the small class size, no refunds will be available one week prior to the first class or once the class has started. In the event the studio needs to cancel a class, a make up session will be offered, however, make up classes are not available for student absences. The care and keeping of our studio depends on each person doing their part to understand and follow all of the information in the Studio Handbook and the Studio Policies outlined on the website. Please take time to click on the "Studio Handbook" link. Instructor: Diana Eller Diana operates Grayrock Pottery in Hiddenite along with her husband, David.
