Service Description
Join Sassy Smyth on Saturday, January 24th from 10am-12pm, as she leads you in making a snowman from a lump of clay! Get creative by forming the clay into pinch pots, combining the pinch pots into balls and then using smaller amounts of clay to "dress him up"! Once formed, you will use Speedball Underglazes (made here in Statesville) to add colors! Your snowman will need to stay in the studio to dry and then be bisque fired. Staff will paint on a clear glaze to make it shiny and it will be fired one more time. Your snowman will be available for pick up at the studio 2-3 weeks after class. All materials and firings are included in the fee. No previous clay experience is needed:). This is a multi-generational class, all makers are invited, ages 8 to 88! Please wear comfy clothes you don't mind getting a little messy and feel free to bring something to drink during the workshop. Courtesy coffee and hot tea is available at the studio. Due to the small workshop size, no refunds will be available for cancellations one week prior to the workshop date. Sassy Smyth is a local potter and has always been a lover of handmade pottery, but it wasn’t until the world began reopening after COVID that she finally signed up for her first class at Create Pottery Studio. She quickly fell in love with both the process and the craft of pottery, diving headfirst into learning on the wheel and through hand building. Before long, nearly all of her free time was spent experimenting, practicing, and deepening her understanding of clay. Teaching classes and workshops brings together two of her favorite things: helping others and making pottery. She loves creating an encouraging, welcoming environment where students feel comfortable trying new things, embracing mistakes, and learning even when things don’t go as planned — because that’s where so much of the magic happens in pottery. She is drawn to learning and sharing knowledge and truly enjoys getting to share her love of making and learning with the Create community.
