For beginners, continuing beginners and intermediate hand builders, ages 16 and up.
Service Description
In this 7-week class, Robin McGuirt will guide beginning hand builders as well as more advanced students in using the 3 basic methods of hand building : slab construction, coiling and pinch pots to make several clay projects. This session will focus on “Hands and Faces” and will revolve around animal forms. Week 1 we’ll have a quick lesson on the properties of clay, tour the studio and begin your journey with a simple rabbit sculpture Week 2 we will create Salt Frogs (a salt cellar in frog form) & matching spoon rest Week 3 we build a reed vase adorned with a dragon fly Week 4 we move on to face mugs (a hand built mug sculpted into a human face!) Weeks 5 & 6 we finish pieces and glaze Week 7 we meet for final work sharing time and pick up. All clay, glazes and firings are included in the class fee. Students are encouraged to wear comfy old clothes. This class meets on Thursday mornings from 10-12:30, beginning on March 12th and ending on April 23rd. Due to the small class size, no refunds will be available one week prior to the first class or once the class has started. In the event the studio needs to cancel a class, a make up session will be offered, however, make up classes are not available for student absences. The care and keeping of our studio depend on each person doing their part to understand and follow all of the information in the Studio Handbook and the Studio Policies outlined on the website. Please take time to click on the "Studio Handbook and Studio Policies" link on the webpage. You will be asked to sign the "Studio Agreement and Waiver" form at your first class. Instructor: Robin McGuirt Robin is an accomplished potter who lives in Harmony, NC with her husband, 2 dogs, sheep, chickens and bees. She works from her home studio, making primarily wheel thrown pieces. Robin has been making pottery for over 20 years and her favorite pieces to make are wine glasses and custom wedding and communion sets. She has shown her work at the Bascom in Highlands, NC, the Smart Gallery in W Jefferson and at GG's here in Statesville. Robin has taught adult workshops in our area and we've been lucky to have her as an instructor here at CrEaTe for our adult Wheel and Hand Building classes as well as the Kids' Studio Class.
