Hand Building-Thurs AM-Late Spr 26
For beginners, continuing beginners and intermediate hand builders, ages 16 and up.
Service Description
This 7-week class, taught by Robin McGuirt , will revolve around hand building simple forms and applying interesting surface techniques. Students will be encouraged to download drawings they love or doodle their own patterns, but for those that claim not to be artists - we’ll have you covered with easy to transfer images you can choose from! Week 1 we’ll have a quick lesson on the properties of clay, tour the studio and begin our journey with simple printmaking for ceramics and silkscreens used on our own plate forms. Week 2 we will create vases and use stencils for a lesson in colorful underglaze painting. Week 3 we’ll create inlay or Mishima with underglaze on simple mugs (forms begun week 2). Week 4 we move on to bowls and dimensional Sgraffito carving through underglazed surfaces. Weeks 5 & 6 we finish pieces we haven’t completed and clear glaze our previous works of art! Week 7 we meet for final work sharing time, question and answer and group discussion. Pieces will be boxed up to take home. All clay, glazes and firings are included in the class fee. Students are encouraged to wear comfy old clothes. This class meets on Thursday mornings from 10-12:30, beginning on May 7th and ending on June 18th. Due to the small class size, no refunds will be available one week prior to the first class or once the class has started. In the event the studio needs to cancel a class, a make up session will be offered, however, make up classes are not available for student absences. Please take time to click on the "Studio Handbook and Studio Policies" link on the webpage. You will be asked to sign the "Studio Agreement and Waiver" form at your first class.
