Service Description
In this 6 week class, students will learn slab, coil and pinch construction methods and combine them to make functional and decorative pottery! We will make a sunshine wall hanging, a vase glazed with paper resist, a sectioned serving tray decorated with texture rollers and a bee and butterfly drinking flower for your garden!! This class is for beginner and experienced hand builders and meets Thursday mornings from 10-12:30pm. After the last class, students will return the next week at the regular class time for pottery pick up and our own version of "Pottery Class Show and Tell"!! Students in this class are also invited to attend a 2 hour complimentary practice session on Saturday, May 17th for "Free Throw Saturday". Just sign up on the Weekly Class page! All glazes and firings are included in the class fee. Clay is also included in the class fee to allow students to choose white or brown clay for the different projects. Students are encouraged to wear comfy old clothes and bring a bib apron to cover their clothes. Due to the small class size, no refunds will be available one week prior to the first class or once the class has started. Instructor: Gin Scott Gin is the owner of Create Pottery Studio and loves teaching clay classes! She and her husband Rhyne live in Statesville and after raising their 3 children, Ben, Abby and Luke and a rewarding career of over 30 years as a Speech-Language Pathologist she opened the studio in 2019. Gin wanted to share her joy for clay with others and to build a community of makers. She took her first pottery class many years ago at Mitchell Community College and Bruce Jordan was her instructor! Gin considers herself a hand builder, using slab construction to make most of her pieces and tiles. She has taught Kids' Studio, "Taste of Clay" and Beginning Hand Building classes and several clay workshops for kids and adults. Gin is very grateful to be able to share her favorite way of making art with others!!
