Service Description

Get the full pottery experience in one immersive class. Over six weeks, you’ll learn the essentials of wheel throwing and hand building while creating functional, one-of-a-kind pieces. We’ll start with the basics of centering and throwing cylinders, then trim and refine your work before diving into slab, coil, and pinch techniques. You’ll turn wheel-thrown forms into mugs (with hand built handles and optional travel lids), explore altering forms with hand building methods, and finish the workshop by glazing your final pieces. Perfect for beginners and adventurous makers, ages 16 and up —join local potter Sassy Smyth for this fun 6 week class and expect muddy hands, new skills, and pottery you’ll love to use. This class meets Monday evenings from 6-8:30pm, beginning on January 12th and ending on February 16th. After the last class, students will return the next week at the regular class time for pottery pick up and our own version of "Pottery Class Show and Tell"!! All clay, glazes and firings are included in the class fee. Students are encouraged to wear comfy old clothes and bring a bib apron to cover their clothes. Due to the small class size, no refunds will be available one week prior to the first class or once the class has started. The care and keeping of our studio depends on each person doing their part to understand and follow our Studio Policies. Please take time to click on the "Studio Handbook and Studio Policies" link on the webpage and sign the "Studio Agreement and Waiver" form at your first class. Sassy Smyth is a local potter and has always been a lover of handmade pottery, but it wasn’t until the world began reopening after COVID that she finally signed up for her first class at Create Pottery Studio. She quickly fell in love with both the process and the craft of pottery, diving headfirst into learning on the wheel and through hand building. Before long, nearly all of her free time was spent experimenting, practicing, and deepening her understanding of clay. Teaching classes and workshops brings together two of her favorite things: helping others and making pottery. She loves creating an encouraging, welcoming environment where students feel comfortable trying new things, embracing mistakes, and learning even when things don’t go as planned — because that’s where so much of the magic happens in pottery. She is drawn to learning and sharing knowledge and truly enjoys getting to share her love of making and learning wi
