Join Sassy Smyth on Friday evening, August 21st from 6-8pm and create your own Whimsical Desk Calendar! From bobbling suns to wandering ants and everything in between, this workshop is all about playful creativity, embracing the unexpected and making something guaranteed to brighten your desk all year long! Sassy will guide you in making your calendar base from a slab of clay, adding decorative pieces to adorn the base and then forming the rectangles and squares that make up the months and dates. You will use underglazes to paint on colors, before leaving your calendar at the studio for a very careful time of drying, then bisque firing, application of clear glaze and a final glaze firing. Your Whimsical Desk Calendar will be ready for pickup 3-4 weeks after the class. This class is for ages 15 and up. Workshop fee of $75 covers all materials, glazes and firings. Please wear comfy clothes you don't mind getting a little messy and feel free to bring something to drink during the workshop. Due to the small workshop size, no refunds will be available for cancellations one week prior to the workshop date. Sassy Smyth is a local potter and has always been a lover of handmade pottery, but it wasn’t until the world began reopening after COVID that she finally signed up for her first class at Create Pottery Studio. She quickly fell in love with both the process and the craft of pottery, diving headfirst into learning on the wheel and through hand building. Before long, nearly all of her free time was spent experimenting, practicing, and deepening her understanding of clay. Teaching classes and workshops brings together two of her favorite things: helping others and making pottery. She loves creating an encouraging, welcoming environment where students feel comfortable trying new things, embracing mistakes, and learning even when things don’t go as planned — because that’s where so much of the magic happens in pottery. She is drawn to learning and sharing knowledge and truly enjoys getting to share her love of making and learning with the Create community.
